The wedding community here in Queenstown is a large group of industry professionals and we’re lucky enough to have the Queenstown Wedding Association to bring us all together for social catch-ups seasonally throughout the year.
In October, the catch-up was the first of its kind: a fashion show for the QWA Wedding Apparel vendors, hosted at the beautifully remodelled Holiday Inn Queenstown, and supported by a number of other vendors, each showcasing their various talents, skills and products to help make the event possible.
The Holiday Inn’s main dining room was the ideal location for the catwalk, with Lake Wakatipu & The Remarkables as a magical backdrop to set the scene. Our runway was beautifully decorated with a floral arch by Bespoke Weddings & Events, backed by Pacific Linen’s white drapes, the room lit and professionally edged with velvet drapery by Visual Events, and tunes provided by Mountain Beats.
Behind the scenes, models from Ican & Monarch model agencies were being made up by the beauty professionals at Eve Makeup, Georgie Hair- Georgie Henderson, Beautiful Bridal Hair– Claire Topliff & Hair to Wed by Tina. Snapping away throughout the event were the talented Celia from Stage Box, Carla Mitchell, and videographer Chris from Eureka Films.
Being amongst industry peers is always inspiring and although we are technically competitors, we love any opportunity to catch up with Queenstown’s other friendly bridal retailers, designers and suit companies; Margaret Wray, Novia, & Sergios.
Dress design is where our creative passion lies, but this runway show was a unique opportunity for us to showcase a selection of our diverse Wedding Hire collection and educate the local wedding community on alternatives to conventional wedding dress traditions.
Being an eco-conscious bride is buzz-worthy and on-trend these days, but it’s a movement that we wholeheartedly believe in and a trend we hope never disappears. Our beautiful planet has been suffering through many decades of toxic industrialisation, one of which is the textile industry, and unfortunately the wasteful nature of weddings contributes to this substantial issue. So, by offering dresses and accessories for hire as an alternative to purchasing, in our own small way we are trying to mitigate the detrimental effects of these areas of our industry in the best way we know how.
“Being an eco-conscious bride is buzz-worthy and on-trend these days, but it’s a movement that we wholeheartedly believe in and a trend we hope never disappears.” – Nemo Bridal & Couture, 2019
At Nemo Bridal & Couture, brides can hire Wedding Dresses, Vintage Furs, Skirts, Underskirts, Tops, Veils, and Shoes. Also, our brother company OMEN Suit Hire can kit out a groom and his groomsmen with Full Suits, including absolutely everything – Shirts, Vests, Cufflinks, Shoes, and even pocket squares! By hiring bridal parties their kit, we’re not only engaging in the waste-eliminating circular economy, but also helping to minimise excessiveness and the luggage requirements of travelling wedding parties. A real win-win for all!
At the very heart of what we do at Nemo is the ethos of circulation, movement and keeping our planet free of excessive waste. With the name “Nemo” coming from an old latin verb meaning nomadic movement, Nemo Bridal & Couture believes in keeping fresh, modern and up to speed on any eco-conscious trends.
We love being a part of weddings. We love the love, the magic, and more than anything we are working hard to be good citizens of this planet.
A big thanks to all who helped make the QWA Runway show happen, especially the lovely ladies at QWA – Jodie, Charlotte, & Phillippa.
